Keanu Reeves has made a law firm that defended Lindsay Lohan in a traffic collision case his sole legal representatives as a lawsuit against him awaits an important hearing next week, according to court papers obtained today.

The Los Angeles law firm of La Follette, Johnson, De Haas, Fesler & Ames stepped into the litigation on April 3 to join Diamond Bar lawyer Jeffrey N. Redd in defending Reeves against a lawsuit by photographer Alison Silva that alleges a car Reeves was driving hit and injured him.

Last week, Redd left the case. On Monday, the new lawyers are scheduled to make their first appearance in the case when Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Elizabeth A. Grimes is scheduled to rule on their motion to strike Silva’s punitive damages claim.

The La Follette firm represented Lindsay Lohan in a lawsuit filed by a busboy, Raymundo Ortega, regarding an October 2005 traffic collision. The parties settled the case in February.

Silva is seeking unspecified general damages in the suit filed Nov. 5. The suit initially alleged negligence and later added assault and battery as causes of action.

Silva claims his earning ability and job prospects have been diminished because of the injuries he suffered on March 19, 2007, when Reeves was behind the wheel of a black 1996 Porsche 911 Cabrio that struck Silva on Avenida Tranquila in Rancho Palos Verdes, according to his suit.

Reeves, who was covering his face, pulled away from the curb and “in a sudden, erratic and dangerous manner drove forward and struck (Silva),” according to the lawsuit. Before he left the case, Redd filed court papers stating that Silva was involved in inherently risky activity and that he should have taken steps to prevent his injuries.

In his four-page motion to strike Silva’s punitive damages claim, defense attorney David J. Ozeran states there is nothing in the lawsuit to support such a demand by the photographer.

“Here, (Silva) has not set forth specific facts to support a claim for punitive damages against Keanu Reeves,” Ozeran’s court papers state. “In fact, there are no facts alleged demonstrating malice on the part of Mr. Reeves and the claim for punitive damages should be stricken.”

Reeves, 43, is best known for his role as Neo in “The Matrix” trilogy as well as for his co-starring role with Sandra Bullock in “Speed.”

On March 19, Silva filed a lawsuit in Santa Monica Superior Court against the X17 photo agency alleging three of the company’s photographers beat him while working near one of Britney Spears’ homes on March 5.

Keanu Reeves has built his career on tense action films like Speed, the Matrix and his latest, Street Kings.

So, for his next project he’s looking for a change of pace - by starring in a musical.

“I’d like to, yes,” Reeves told AAP.

“(I want to do) the whole shebang - singing, dancing, some romance.”

For now, though, Reeves is in Australia promoting Street Kings by director David Ayer and co-starring Forest Whitaker, Hugh Laurie and Chris Evans.

Reeves plays veteran LAPD cop Tom Ludlow who uncovers an extortion conspiracy in the police department he’s been part of all his career.

Reeves was unapologetic about the violent nature of the film, which is rated MA15+ for strong violence.

“It’s about that, it’s a gritty film in a gritty world,” he said.

The 43-year-old star said he had to do a lot of training to get into shape for the part, and admitted getting fit wasn’t as easy now as it used to be.

“I trained, I lifted some weights,” he said.

“It depends on the role - I don’t feel ageless.”

About 1,000 Sydney fans turned out on Tuesday to welcome Reeves, who called the Harbour city home for two years while he was shooting the Matrix trilogy.

Reeves signed autographs, posed for photographs and slapped high fives with the excited crowd, who filled the George Street cinema complex and lined the road outside.

He said he was enjoying his brief return to Sydney and hoped to do a film here again in the future.

“It’s great to be back,” he said.

“I had the greatest experience working here, so I hope I get to do that again.

“It’s a fantastic city.”

Reeves got the chance to catch up Tuesday with another big Hollywood star, Robert Downey Jr, who is also in town promoting his film Iron Man.

“We ran into each other this afternoon, so that was nice,” Reeves said.

Keanu Reeves faces negligence lawsuit related to car accident

A photographer has filed a lawsuit against Keanu Reeves after the actor allegedly crashed into him in a Porsche.

The lawsuit filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court said Reeves struck Alison Silva on March 19. At the time of the accident, authorities said the person Reeves struck was a male photographer.

The suit seeks an unspecified amount in damages and alleges Silva suffered shock and serious bodily injuries.

A lawyer for Reeves did not immediately return a phone message Monday evening.

Reports at the time of the accident said Reeves was leaving a parking space about 50 kilometres south of downtown Los Angeles when he hit Silva.

A lawyer for Reeves said at the time Silva was blocking Reeves’ way and if there was a collision, it was not hard enough to cause injuries.
